A young toddler has tragically died following a farm accident in West Cork.
It is understood that the two-year-old boy died after sustaining serious injuries when he was struck by a large steel gate on a farm in the Goleen area earlier this afternoon. It is thought the young boy was playing in the yard of his home this afternoon when the tragic accident happened. It has been reported that the young boy’s father apparently heard a scream. The boy’s father quickly rushed to attend to his son were he found a steel gate had fallen on top of him and pinned him to the ground.
The toddler was quickly rushed to Cork University Hospital by air ambulance. The young boy was attended by staff at the hospital but despite their best efforts of he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have said they launched separate investigations.
