A young boy who was told to “pull his socks up” when he was too sick to go to school was then diagnosed with a serious brain tumour.

According to the Metro, 11-year-old Charlie Card used to spend hours retching and was often unable to go to school as a result. At first, his teachers and family thought that the pain he had in his neck and ongoing tiredness was caused by playing for too long on his Xbox.

But things got more serious at Easter when Charlie suddenly started having problems with his eyesight. His parents Rosie and Gary were horrified to learn that Charlie had been living with a brain tumour for an astonishing six months.

He then had a five-hour operation which removed 99% of the tumour. Even after this, little Charlie had to have several sessions of radiotherapy and chemotherapy to bring him back to full health.

Gary and Rosie, who tragically lost Charlie’s brother in 2009 when he was just six months old, say they have a very important message for other parents – to listen to their children when they say they are not feeling well. If they are ignored then serious illnesses can go unnoticed.

Sadly, Charlie’s dad Gary has spoken about how his son is not the same person as he was before his ordeal and has lost his sense of humour and is unable to open up as he once did. He is hoping that if he and Rosie can give Charlie the best Christmas he’s ever had then he might start coming back to himself.
