President Trump reportedly contemplating designating Mexican cartels as “Terrorist Organisations”

US President Trump has received an urgent message for talks from the Mexican government after reports claim he is contemplating designating Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organisations for role in people and narcotics trafficking.

In an interview aired on Tuesday with conservative media personality Bill O’Reilly President Trump said:
“They will be designated … I have been working on that for the last 90 days. You know, designation is not that easy, you have to go through a process, and we are well into that process.”

This move to designate the Mexican cartels as terrorist organisations comes after an American family of nine, including six children, were been massacred in cartel ambush in Northern Mexico.

Reacting to the massacre President Trump called for war on the Mexican cartels.

Mexico has been embroiled in a war with powerful drug cartels for many years with tens of thousands having been killed and large swathes of the country becoming ungovernable or under the control of criminal enterprises.

In response to President Trump’s comments on imminent designation of the cartels as terrorist organisations the Mexican government issued a statement saying

“The foreign minister will establish contact with his counterpart, Michael R. Pompeo, (US Secretary of State) in order to discuss this very important issue for the bilateral agenda.”
