Gardaí who want a beard must grow a proper big beard and or not to grow one at all, a Garda Inspector told his junior officers.
RTE reports that the inspector, who works in a traffic unit, said some Gardaí can’t decide whether or not they want a beard, as they alternate between clean shaving and different stages of facial hair each week.
It was “unacceptable”, he wrote in an internal memo to Garda sergeants.
The inspector compared some of the Gardaí’s attempts to grow beards to a poorly watered lawn during a heat wave.
Gardaí should not interpret a decision to grow a beard as an excuse to take a shaving break, the national broadcaster reports.
“In short, members should decide whether they want a beard or not or whether their partners will allow them to have one or not and commit to one look or the other,” he said.
