Young girl who was scalded by boiling hot water on Aer Lingus flight gets €23,000 compo

A young child has been awarded €23,000 in a High Court case over boiling water on an Aer Lingus flight, reports Breaking News.

The girl was seven years old when the accident happened on November 30, 2019 and was travelling with her mother on a flight from Shannon Airport to Lanzarote.

The accident allegedly took place after ordering a cup of tea and placing boiling water on a tray.

The girl’s right hand was burnt.

Roisin Loughnane, now 11, of Birr, Co. From Offaly, her mother, Caroline Mitchell, sued Aer Lingus.

She was on a 12.30pm flight from Shannon Airport when she was found injured after a stewardess poured a cup of boiling water on her, reports Breaking News.

It was alleged that the child was not protected against potential risks and that there were no proper arrangements for handling a cup of boiling water on the plane.

It was further alleged that the water in the cup was served at a temperature which could cause burns and as a result, the water was poured on the child.

At this point, cold running water was poured over the burns, and she was given first aid during the flight.

On December 9, the child was taken to the doctor and examined at the hospital, reports Breaking News.

Medical reports to the court showed that the burns had caused blisters and pain, but concluded that it was a superficial injury and had healed well.

Judge Garrett Simmons approved the settlement, reports Breaking News.
