Young Irishman fights for his life after being punched outside Sydney nightclub

A young Irishman has been left fighting for his life after being punched outside a Sydney nightclub. Jason Cierans (29) from Cork has been living in Australia for over five years. He was out with friends when he was involved in an argument over jumping a queue outside a Bondi Junction club at 1am Saturday morning.

The man was rushed to St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney were he is now in a induced coma. He has reportedly undergone surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. His family in Ireland have been notified.

A 27-year-old man was charged with affray and a 30-year-old man believed to be from Argentina has been charged with recklessly causing grievously bodily harm. In footage shown on Australian news TV, paramedics can be seen treating the victim on Bronte Road in the Bondi Junction area of the city.

The alleged attacker was refused bail and will face Paramatta Court tomorrow.
