Young woman remains critical in Dublin after she opened her door, was dosed with petrol and set on fire

GardaĆ­ are currently examining an incident in Clondalkin, Dublin, where a woman was deliberately set alight at a private residence, reports RTE.

A man also suffered injuries in the course of the same assault, which occurred shortly after 10am last Tuesday.

Emergency crews from Dublin Fire Brigade attended the location, where the woman received immediate medical attention from paramedics before being rushed to Tallaght Hospital.

Her injuries are said to be life-threatening.

The property has been secured to allow for a detailed forensic investigation, reports RTE.

The incident happened at a home in Oak Downs, a spacious and generally peaceful housing estate located off Boot Road in Clondalkin.

A female resident opened the door after someone knocked, and a flammable liquid, believed to be petrol, was thrown over her before being ignited.

She suffered extensive burns to her face and upper body, reports RTE.

Several other individuals were inside the house when the attack took place.

Emergency services, including gardaĆ­ and the fire brigade, were quickly alerted.

Firefighters put out the flames, and the gravely injured woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.

She was subsequently transferred to Tallaght University Hospital, where her condition remains critical. GardaĆ­ are also at the hospital with her, reports RTE.

The area around Oak Downs has been cordoned off as a crime scene, and a technical examination is underway.

ā€œA garda source described this as a horrific and frightening attack.ā€

ā€œThey believe the attack was targeted and deliberate, and suspect it could be drugs related.ā€

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed, and an incident room set up at Clondalkin Garda Station, reports RTE.

GardaĆ­ are appealing to anyone who was in the Oak Downs area of Clondalkin between 9.30am and 10.20am this morning and who may have captured footage, including dash-cam recordings, to provide it to the investigation team.
