Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the EU to quickly allow Ukraine to become a member.
“Our path to membership must not take decades,” he told his national parliament in Kyiv when European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen spoke with him via video call today.
Sky News reports that he said “We must traverse this path as quickly as possible. This depends on us.”
Ukrainian politicians cheered in unison as three National Guard soldiers in ceremonial uniform carried a giant EU flag into the courtroom.
Ms von der Leyen said Ukraine now has a “very clear European perspective”, but the path to EU membership will take time and hard work.
