The arrival of typhoon Jongdari has prompted Japanese authorities to issue evacuation orders to large areas across the west of the country.
The typhoon, which brings winds of up to 180km/h, is expected to make landfall on Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Japan has been beset with extreme weather events in recent weeks, with record temperatures and massive rainfall that have killed 220 people and displaced thousands more.
