The soon-to-be forgotten Taoiseach, Enda Kenny has announced he is to step down as Fine Gael leader tonight from midnight.
He made the announcement at the party parliamentary meeting this evening.
The race will now officially get under way for an all out slugfest between Simon Coveney and Leo Varadkar to see who will succeed Kenny and inevitably become the new Taoiseach.
Kenny is said to be remembered for his ardent support of water charges and helping introduce abortion into Ireland in the 2013 Dail vote.
