Bus Éireann spends €7million on a new fleet of buses that won’t fit down Navan streets

Bus Éireann has spent more than €7 million on a new fleet of buses for Navan. The problem being the new buses won’t fit through the town. The Sunday Business Post says the company has already bought 12 double-decker coaches at €600,000 each.

A test run was when it was realised that the new longer buses were unable to maneouvre the narrow streets. The buses clipped kerbs, mounted pavements and repeatedly became stuck unable to get around bends and corners.

The buses were bought investment as part of a €25 million investment funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) in an attempt to boost the eastern services of Bus Eireann.

Local Independent Councillor, Wayne Ford, told the The Sunday Business Post that the buses currently on the road have trouble enough on the Navan roads, “never mind these new, longer buses”. He said that “there’s not a chance these longer buses will be able to access a bus hub in Kennedy Road”.
