#1 Child abduction: Gardai continue searching for 15-year-old Sait Canbullu, who was bundled into a car by masked men in Wexford town yesterday. Canbullu is 5ft 4in in height, of slim build, and has black hair and brown eyes. When last seen, he was wearing a grey tracksuit and blue or grey Nike runners.

#2 Hostage killing: A video has been released allegedly showing the killing of British aid worker David Haines. Haines is the third hostage executed in cold blood by IS militants. UK prime minister David Cameron will chair Cobra meeting today to decide on a course of action.

#3 Sinking: Boat carrying immigrants sinks off the coast of Malta. The boat was understood to be carrying up to 30 people, and it is thought to have been rammed by another boat. The influx of migrants attempting the perilous journey between African and European coastlines has greatly increased in recent times, with as many as 110,000 people rescued since January this year alone.

#4 Heavy fog: Met Eireann issues nationwide yellow alert over heavy fog. Dense and thick fog will create hazardous driving conditions across the country this morning. The alert will remain in place until 11am.

#5 Scottish referendum: September 18 is the date when the future of Scotland will be decided. The outcome remains too close to call at this point, but an independent Scotland may have significant repercussions for Ireland.
