A young woman from Balbriggan north county Dublin has spoken of how she was brutally attacked and robbed of her handbag as she made her way home from her friend’s house last Saturday night.
The victim of the disgraceful and cowardly attack Carol Donnelly aged 30 was horrifically attacked after she spent the evening watching the X Factor at a friends house in Bremore Pastures in the town. It is believed that at around 1.30am on Saturday night/Sunday morning Carol decided to leave her friends house and begin a five-minute walk through the estate to return home.
It was then when Carol came across her would be attackers, Carol says as she was walking across the estate’s green area she had noticed that three youths, believed to be two boys and a girl, dressed all in black, where following her. The gang then proceeded to attack her by repeatedly punching her in the head and then violently pulling her hair.
A desperate Carol who was all alone tried to reason with her attackers, by offering them her cash and bank cards but not her handbag. However her pleas fell on deaf ears as the ruthless thugs continued to assualt her until she gave up her handbag. The heartless thugs then fled the scene, and left Carol in a bruised sate. Carol somehow managed to call her friend after her assault who subesquently contacted gardai to report the incident.
Carol said: “I had to phone them five times before they eventually arrived out to me. “They said they are so busy that they have yet to assign someone to my case. “When they do that I will be able to give my statement.”
Carol also said that the whole incident has left her deeply distressed, she said: “I am heartbroken and afraid. “I just cannot believe it’s not safe for me to go from one house to another in my area”.
