Disgraceful: Latest figures now show that there are currently over 2,800 children homeless in Ireland

According to latest figures there is currently over 2,800 children homeless in Ireland.

The latest figures which were released this week also show there is a slight rise in the number of families living in emergency accommodation.

In the detailed report which has been reviewed by the Department of Housing, it is believed there are currently 1365 families living in emergency accommodation across the country.

The report which compiled statistics up until the end of June also found that there is currently 2895 children without a permanent home, which marks a significant increase of a further 118 children been left homeless since May.

Figures also revealed that there is currently 5,046 homeless adults across the country living in emergency accommodation.

The latest figures has once again led to both children’s and homeless advocacy groups to call on the Government to tackle the issue which they say is becoming more and more unsustainable as each passing month goes by.

Although the groups have welcomed the government’s recent decision to provide more modular housing, they do say the promises made by the Department of Housing are not being fulfilled and that more and more vulnerable families are being left without support when they need it the most.
