Dogged England edge France in scrappy Twickenham affair




It was England who took the spoils in the second game of the day in the 2017 Six Nations championship, beating France in Twickenham this evening.

In a gruelling affair it was England who came out on winning the tie 19-16. The highly anticipated encounter which will surely go along way to determine the overall winner of the championship it was the English who came out on top.

The match which was plagued with plenty of errors by both sides became a kicking affair for for most of the first half as both Lopez and Farrell slotted over penalties to keep the contest a pretty even affair. Although France could consider themselves unlucky not to be further in front at the break as costly errors at the English line cost them the chance to pull ahead, but instead they went into the break 9-6 in front.

The beginning of the second half was much of the same as England managed to draw level to tie up the scores 9-9 a piece. With the game drawing on both teams missed penalties to edge in front, the match as a whole didn’t liven up until the 60th minute when Slimani crossed over for France after a superb passing move down the right hand side.

But as the game drew to a close it was Eddie Jones’s men who came up the goods to seal the victory over a tiring French side. The decisive moment came in 71st minute when Te’o crossed over to give England a 19-16 lead.

With nine minutes left England were in full control and managed to hang until the end as an out on their feet France couldn’t come up with a reply.
