The town of Drogheda has been widely praised over the past days after it was revealed that over 500,000 people attended this year’s Fleadh Cheoil.
Following a week of traditional music and dance, the Co Louth town is now preparing to back to normality although not without plaudits from organisers and visitors alike.
The town which has already been selected to host the 2019 event have recieved positive reviews by event organisers in recent days as official figures revealed that last weeks festival was one of the biggest ever.
According to Fleadh organisers over 25% of visitors to Drogheda last weekend were from abroad, whilst the event generated an estimated €40m for the local economy.
Organisers say Drogheda’s hosting of the event was uniquely special and those involved should be proud as their preparations made it one of the most memorable and successful events in recent times.
Although locals are only beginning the cleanup from this year’s event, many have already expressed their delight and enthusiasm for hosting next year’s Fleadh Cheoil.
