Gardai arrested 15 people in Cork over last weekend, in connection with ‘organized begging’.
According to The Irish Examiner most of those taken into custody were of Eastern European origin, as well as some Irish citizens.
All were arrested around the St. Patrick St. area of the city.
At least one person had previously been arrested for similar offences in Dublin.
