Gardai in Co Westmeath have confirmed that a 21 year old man has been arrested following an alleged sexual assault of a young woman on Monday.
It is understood Garda officers arrested the man a short time later after the alleged incident which occurred in Glasson, Co Westmeath.
Gardaí say the man was arrested in connection to the alleged sexual assault along a number of other offences, including drink-driving and assault.
Reports say the man was apprehended by a member of the public after a confrontation broke out between the pair over the attackers dangerous driving following the alleged attack which occurred on the side of a road in the village.
Gardaí say the alleged attacker is currently being detained at Athlone Garda station.
