Gardai now believe that Jastine Valdez was murdered shortly after being abducted.
Officers are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination that will determine the exact time and cause of death.
Valdez was seen being bundled into a vehicle in Enniskerry on Saturday morning. A body, believed to be her remains, was found in deep undergrowth in Rathmichael, south Dublin, on Monday.
The main suspect in the case was shot dead by police in Cherrywood. A note found inside the suspect’s vehicle may have pointed officers to the location of the body, and may also provide insight into the motive for the kidnapping and murder.
