Hanging in the balance: Frances Fitzgerald could single-handedly be the cause of a General Election

We should know later this morning or early afternoon as to what has happened in last night’s and this morning’s meeting between Fine Gael and Fianna Fail.

It appears as though the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is going to stand by his woman and not force the Tanaiste Frances Fitzgerald to resign. Likewise, it appears as though she has no desire to step down of her own volition.

Meanwhile, Fianna Fail’s Micheal Martin is adamant that Fitzgerald must step down or be pushed – anything less is unacceptable and would make Fianna Fail look pathetic.

We’ll update you when we hear the latest information on whether she’ll stay or go. A General Election is hanging in the balance it would seem.
