The Minister for Health, Simon Harris, and the Department of Health will outline a number of changes to the health service in the coming days.
Reports suggest Minister Harris is brief an Oireachtas committee on his plans to introduce regional departments in place of the Health Service Executive (HSE).
Unser the new radical proposals the HSE could become pretty much non-existent with the role of public health being left im the hands of purposely selected regional executives.
Mr Harris is also considering introducing a new system that will see clinical directors being given a greater role in managing hospitals in the future.
