The HSE have revealed today that 24 people have tragically died during the current flu epidemic.
In an announcement made earlier today Dr Kevin Kelleher, the HSE’s Assistant National Director of public health confirmed the deaths.
Although most of the deaths came as a result of patients also having underlying conditions, Dr Kelleher said some patients did not have any record of any underlying conditions.
The recent flu outbreak which began before Christmas has seen the country’s A&E departments being stretched with over 540 patients left on trolleys across the country.
