Hundreds evacuated from their homes in Paris as the River Seine continues to rise

Paris is bracing itself for a difficult weekend as the waters in the River Seine continue to rise.

After a week of heavy rainfall hundreds of people in the city have been forced to evacuate their homes due to severe flooding.

According to French media a number of popular tourist destinations including the Louvre have been closed in order to avoid further damage.

Meanwhile tunnels and road networks across the city have also been closed as a precautionary measure with waters set to rise above 20ft.

The mass evacuation comes after the river reached a staggering 18ft high on Friday at the Austerlitz Bridge which is located in the east of the French capital.

It is understood the heavy flooding came after the city experienced more than double the average rainfall for this time of year.
