In what can only be described as an incredibly brave and emotionally filled interview, Brendan and Jane McKenna spoke candidly about the deaths of their two daughters, Laura and Lynn.
The couple were interviewed on the Ray D’Arcy show on RTE.
They told their story about how both daughters died tragically from cancer and a hole in the heart.
The terribly sad circumstances lead to 15-yr-old Lynn being diagnosed with cancer as her baby sister, Laura, was being unsuccessfully operated on to fix a hole in her heart.
Brendan and Jane told of their helpfulness and their faith. They said that they don’t even remember much of the time itself or the funerals of their two daughters.
Brendan said they were horrendously sad times but they’ve managed to keep themselves and their minds above water.
Jane read a poem and request that Lynn had for her funeral. Some things included asking for a white coffin, to be buried with her diaries and wearing a wristwatch.
The one good thing that happened from the tragedies was the Laura Lynn foundation – a foundation that helps mothers, fathers and families who are going through the same sort of thing that the McKenna’s went through.
Brendan said “Lynn knew she’d meet Laura again, there was and is no doubt about it. They are together again”.
