Leading Fianna Fáil TD tells the government to “get down and do their job” regarding the current homelessness crisis

A leading Fianna Fáil TD has slammed the Government for not agreeing on measures which would address the current homelessness and rent certainty.

The news comes after a Labour party spokesman has refuted claims from Fianna Fáil’s Barry Cowen, who says that Labour’s party executive have already approved a compromise plan already. Deputy Cowen believes the announcement is currently being delayed because the government are using the whole crisis as a PR stunt.

It is understood that an angry Mr Cowen told ministers in the Dáil yesterday afternoon that they “must simply get down and do their job.” Mr Cowen added: “Do what ye were elected to do, and do what the Dáil gave ye the privilege to do, and address and use the funds that are available to address this issue in a real and meaningful way for people who are in an unfortunate situation and are facing continued homelessness and continued crisis in their own lives as they approach Christmas.”

However Government Ministers have said “progress is currently being made” after a meeting between Fine Gael and Labour ministers over the housing crisis recently.
