Mandatory retirement age for civil servants to be raised under new Government plans

There will be good news for some civil servants later today as the Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe will announce plans that will allow workers to work beyond that age of 65.

Under the new measures those who work in the public sector will be allowed to work until the age of 70 if they wish to do so.

However the new measures won’t be introduced immediately but instead they will be phased in over the coming years ahead.

It is understood the Government have decided to change the laws after Fianna Fail advocated on the behalf of public sector workers who wish to work beyond the age of 65.

The changes will be welcome a boost to those wishing to continue their careers as the current laws state that those in the public sector must retire when they reach the age of 65.
