According to a leading Fianna Fáil source it is believed that party leader Michael Martin has given Independent TD’s one last chance to vote for him and make him Taoiseach and to support a Fianna Fáil-led minority government.
Recent reports suggest the ultimatum comes after the latest round of talks between Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael broke down. The senior source is quoted as saying it is time for Independents to call Fine Gael’s bluff. The source also claimed it was completely unreasonable that Fine Gael would not support a Fianna Fáil-led minority government.
It is thought the latest round of talks broke down because Fine Gael recently passed a motion which reinstated their stance regarding the future of Irish Water, which is thought to be a red line issue with Fianna Fáil.
