Out with the old and in with the new: An Board Pleanala grants permission for the demolition of Dublin’s Apollo House

One of Dublin’s ugliest buildings Apollo House will be officially torn down in the coming months ahead after planning permission for a new ten storey office block was granted by An Board Pleanala.

The building which came to national attention last December when it was used as a shelter for many homeless people in the capital will be replaced by a new building as part of a €50 million plan that will also see the adjacent Hawkins House redeveloped.

Although the demolition of the building was halted earlier this year after a number of groups submitted petitions to An Boa Pleanala calling for the city council to uphold demolition work which was subsequently granted.

However after an extensive review by the planning board it is now understood the work needed to demolish the building can go ahead as planned as there are no legal reasons to prolong the buildings existence.
