Online social justice activists have expressed outrage and disgust after Albert Einstein’s travel diaries revealed that the long dead scientists held racist views.
Einstein’s travel diaries written between October 1922 and March 1923 detail his experiences and travels through Asia and the Middle East.
In his writings Einstein vociferously disparages Arabs, Indians and Chinese people. At one point he refers to Arabs as seeming like they “spewed from hell”. The visionary scientist then describes Chinese people as “more like automatons than people”.
Ironically, Einstein would later lend his voice and fame to support the civil rights movement in the U.S after he fled Germany due to the emerging persecution of the country’s Jewish population that came with the rise of Hitler.
