United Ireland on the cards? Kenny says the entire territory of Ireland would be part of EU if a unity referendum passed

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny is said to be possibly looking to push a united Ireland in the not so distant future.

According to RTE, a draft declaration by the EU will state that “the entire territory” of a united Ireland, which includes the Republic and the North would eventually be part of the EU again if the North joined the South in a unity referendum.

What it means is that should a unity referendum occur, Northern Ireland would be instantly “back” in the European Union having voted to remain in it when the Brexit referendum occured last summer in the United Kingdom.

It’s will be seen by some as somewhat of a blackmail tactic, but it very well might work if enough Northern Irish residents wanted back in the EU.
