The first cold spell of the season is on its way, as Met Eireann predicts temperatures below average this weekend, sinking to minus 1 or 2C in places.
Daytime temperatures will hover around the mid teens, with scattered showers and sunny spells. Saturday night will be particularly cold, as the thermometer plummets to about 2C and further down in isolated areas.
Early indications point to a recovery in temperatures from Sunday onwards, with a more settled pattern developing for the first half of next week at least.
