A Status Yellow weather warning has now come into effect as temperatures are expected to rise beyond 30C.
According to Met Eireann, the all-time high of 33.3c set in Kilkenny Castle in 1887 is under pressure as temperatures could get close to that.
The weather warning will remain in place until at least 9pm on Tuesday evening.
People are advised to stay hydrated, especially older people and that animals need to be in the shed and have plenty of water.
