13-yr-old boy died after inhaling too much deodorant because ‘it smelled like his mum’

A teenage boy in the UK tragically died from misadventure after he breathed in too much deodorant, an inquest heard. According to the Metro, the boy’s mother, Susan Waple had previously noticed that deodorant tins were going missing around the house or seemed lighter than usual.

Summarising a statement from Mrs Waple, according to the Metro, Norfolk’s area coroner Yvonne Blake, said:
‘He assured you nothing was going wrong and said when you went out he was anxious so he sprayed his deodorant about as it smelt like you. ‘He asked you to believe him. You felt you had to show faith in him.’

Ms Blake said that the boy’s parents had spoken to him about aerosol misuse beforehand. Tragically, Jack’s mother found Jack unresponsive in his bedroom on June 13 and found an aerosol can on his bed.

Paramedics did their best to save the boy but sadly he died. A post-mortem examination recorded his medical cause of death as aerosol inhalation.

A pathologist said that breathing in the gases from aerosols can ‘jolt’ the heart, and that the damage caused is to the heart rather than the lungs.

The story went viral with youngsters being advised to steer clear of doing similar actions.
