15-yr-old Floridian Cori Gauff has grabbed the opening day of Wimbledon’s headlines around the world after defeating 39-yr-old legend of the game Venus Williams in straight sets.
The teenager came out battling from word go and showed little to no nerves breaking her hero in the first set.
Just 7 years ago, Gauff had watched Venus play in the US Open and ran down to get her autograph as an 8-yr-old. Tonight, she’s beaten her tennis idol in straight sets 6-4 6-4 on Court No 1.
