San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world with a population of just 33,000 citizens, voted this weekend to legalise abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
Abortion will also be legal beyond 12 weeks if the woman’s life is in danger or if her physical or psychological health is at risk because of anomalies or malformations of the baby.
This weekend’s referendum overturns the ban on abortion, dating back to 1865.
77% of voters voted for abortion to be made legal, despite San Marino adults and children being able to access free contraception at pharmacies, including the morning-after pill.
Many in the prolife movement now believe that child abortion is now viewed as another form of contraception. A trend that is growing throughout the so-called civilised world
