After being accused of repeatedly hitting another man from behind with a hurley, causing serious head injuries during a feud-related incident, a young Dublin man was granted bail, reports The Mirror.
Andrew Thomas, 18, of Wad River Close, Ballymun, was charged on Saturday with assault causing hurt at the Applegreen store on Swords Road in Santry, north Dublin, on September 28 of last year. He made his court appearance at Dublin District Court.
Additionally, he was accused of using a knife as a weapon on September 20, 2024, in St. Mary’s Abbey in Dublin 7, reports The Mirror.
After gardai searched for him for months, thinking the adolescent had “gone to ground” and maybe fled the country, he was brought before the court.
But on Friday, while having a haircut at Dublin Airport, Mr. Thomas was seen and taken into custody, reports The Mirror.
Judge Treasa Kelly put him in jail after refusing bail.

The Garda According to Sean Clyde, the acts were linked to a vendetta that has previously resulted in gun assaults on the accused and his residence, reports The Mirror.
He said that the wounded person was at the till area when the accused assaulted him from behind during the assault. “Mr. Thomas struck the male with a hurley on three occasions to his head,” the officer said.
According to allegations made during a contentious bail hearing, the man suffered serious injuries, including a fractured nose, swelling in his right eye, and a serious head injury.
The intruder allegedly stole €20 from him while donning a black ski mask and ran away. The court was informed that two days later, when searching the defendant’s residence, gardai found an identical ski mask, reports The Mirror.
The accused also got into a fight in St. Mary’s Abbey, according to Garda Clyde.
A more serious accusation may result from the alleged knife production by the accused and the verbal abuse between the youths.
The court was informed that CCTV evidence and independent witnesses were present, reports The Mirror.
Earlier, Mr. Thomas’s passport had been confiscated.
However, Garda Clyde said that following the violent incident in the Applegreen store, the accused “disappeared” and was absent for three months. He could have fled the country, the officer thought, reports The Mirror.
