21 children are now sadly known to have died in Kenya school fire

Authorities reported that the number of youngsters who perished from burns in a central Kenyan school dormitory has climbed to 21, reports Breaking News.

As they made an effort to find the dozens of boys who are still missing, officials started removing the children’s remains.

On Saturday, while a team including the government pathologist and morticians from the Nyeri provincial hospital set up facilities outside the dormitories, journalists gathered outside the Hillside Endarasha Primary School property.

156 boys between the ages of 10 and 14 were living in a hostel that was destroyed by a fire on Thursday night, reports Breaking News.

The government is asking parents and anyone who live close to the privately-owned school to assist in accounting for all of the children, of which more than 100 boys have been identified.

Speaking on behalf of the government, Isaac Mwaura urged the people to exercise patient as authorities search the area to determine the number of fatalities and the source of the fire.

Some of the youngsters were so badly burned, according to Mr. Mwaura, that it would take longer for the authorities to identify the victims, reports Breaking News.

“These figures are still preliminary as the process is ongoing,” he stated. The DNA procedure will need many days to complete, reports Breaking News.

William Ruto, the president of Kenya, announced three days of mourning on Friday. The origin of the fire is still being looked into by the police, reports Breaking News.
