255 drivers were caught speeding on National Slow Down Day




Close to 200,000 vehicles were checked for speeding during National Slow Down Day. Gardai were seen up and down the country with their speed cameras in their hands.

In one instance, a car was recorded doing 181km/h on the M1 motorway, some 61km/h over the speed limit.

Another driver in Cork was caught doing 51km/h over the 100km/h zone on the N72.

Gardai say that their 1,000 speed checks around the country were in operation from 7am Friday until 7am Saturday morning.
