26-yr-old man who used to live in Waterford has been sentenced to two years in prison for raising funds for the Islamic State

A 26-year-old man who had an address in Waterford City has been convicted of providing funds to the Islamic State terrorist organization RTE reports.

The man, Hasan Bal, was sentenced to four and a half years but with two suspended in Waterford Circuit Court after he plead guilty to two different terror related offences.

An Islamism propaganda video was also found on Hasan’s phone and images of himself posing in combat fatigues with a fake firearm.

The Judge noted a number of mitigating factors including previous good character.
