
Mary Ward was killed in Belfast more than two weeks ago, and a 31-year-old man has been charged with her murder, reports RTE.
On October 1st, the 22-year-old mother of one was found dead at her Belfast home on Melrose Street.
The previous week, the police thought she had been murdered.
This morning, Kinlay House, Dame Street, Dublin 2, resident Ahmed Abdirahman made his appearance before Dublin District Court, reports RTE.
He is accused of killing Ms. Ward on September 25 at Melrose Street in Belfast.
The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Garda Sergeant James King provided proof of an arrest, a charge, and a warning, reports RTE.
He informed the court that Mr. Abdirahman was accused of killing someone at the Kevin Street Garda Station the previous evening.
Mr. Abdirahman responded, “not guilty,” when the charge was presented to him under caution, according to GDA Sgt King.
In a murder case, bail must be requested in the High Court; the District Court lacks jurisdiction to consider bail, reports RTE.
Wayne Kenny, the accused’s attorney, informed the judge that a bail request will be filed in the High Court “as soon as possible”.
An application for legal aid was submitted and approved, reports RTE.
