35-yr-old Cork man who rammed six garda cars and and injured four gardaí, with children in car, gets jailed

A 35-yr-old north Cork man who endangered the lives of his wife and six children when he drove at speed on a motorway and rammed six garda cars, injuring four officers trying to stop him, has been jailed for three years, reports Independent.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his wife and children, who were the beneficiaries of a protection order at the time, pleaded guilty to a total of 13 offences in connection with the high-speed hit-and-run in Cork on September 28 2022.

Detective Inspector Danny Coholan gave the background to the dangerous 40-minute driving spree from north Cork to Cork City and Ringaskiddy while giving evidence to Judge Colin Daly at Cork District Criminal Court.

The court heard that the man’s wife had taken out an order against him at the time and had moved out of the family home with her children weeks before the incident, while the man had spent just five days in an inpatient psychiatric unit, reports Independent.
