German public prosecutors are today saying that they believe Madeleine McCann is dead, and will treat the case as a murder inquiry.
The significant development in the ongoing McCann case came after German police arrested a German national in connection with the disappearance of the then 3-year-old Madeleine in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.
The man arrested was living in the area at the time of Madeleine’s disappearance. He is incarcerated in Germany for unrelated charges that involve crimes against young females.
The nature of this man’s connection with the Madeleine case remains unclear.
