A new study just published in the prestigious medical journal The Lancet shows that statistically speaking, the level of cancer survival rates in Ireland is one of the lowest in Europe.

Figures show that just 56% of women in Ireland survive beyond five years after first being diagnosed with cervical cancer, compared to 73% in Iceland, for example.

Survival rates for people with ovarian, breast and rectal cancer also rank significantly lower than the European average.
