Gardai have launched an investigation following an assault in Co. Cork over the weekend.
The incident happened in the St. Coleman’s Park area of Fermoy at around 6.30pm on Sunday evening.
The victim, a female in her 50s, was injured in the attack when a man aged in his 20s or 30s attacked her from behind and sexually assaulted her.
It’s understood that two people who were passing near the area where the attack happened heard the woman’s cries for help. They went over and the attacker fled the scene.
Gardai say that they’re looking at CCTV footage from the area and will interview the woman in the coming days after her initial shock has subsided.
