Gardai have arrested one person following a fatal assault at Cork’s Mercy Hospital.
Gardai were called to the hospital around 5am where they found a man in his 30s in a shocked state.
They then found a man, believed to be 87, fatally injured following an assault.
It is understood that the man in his late 80s was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man in his 30s is now in custody in connection with this incident after gardai arrested him on what they discovered.
It’s understood the deceased was a patient in the hospital but no further details are released on the detained man.
It’s believed that Gardai are working off the idea that the younger man assaulted the deceased man and caused him fatal injuries.
Other patients alerted staff and they immediately rang Gardai.
