Youths described as “thugs” after last night’s attack on Dublin Fire Brigade as they fought to put out a bonfire

As we reported last night, units of Dublin Fire Brigade came under attack as they battled hard to put an initial out-of-control bonfire out in Dublin’s Basin Street flat complex on the South side of the city.

The units managed to control and put out the fire, only to be called back a second time after youths set the blaze alight again with a number of palettes.

As the firemen fought the blaze, they started to get pelted with stones and bottles from nearby youths.

They managed to put out the blaze but got called back again after nearby wheelie bins were set alight.

This time they were accompanied by the gardai.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council told The Liberal this morning:
“What happened last night was absolutely disgraceful. The Dublin Fire Brigade are doing their best to keep everyone and everything safe in the city over the coming weekend. The thugs who threw objects last night need to have a long hard look at themselves and realise was they did was not only disgraceful but extremely dangerous to people risking their lives fighting fire. We must hope the publicity through the lines of The Liberal will make them think twice in the future”.
