IAA advises Irish airlines to halt all flights to and from Sharm el Sheikh Airport in Egypt

All Irish airlines are to suspend all flights to and from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el Sheikh Airport with immediate effect, as advised by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA).

The move comes days after a Russian passenger jet came down over the Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 on board. Air crash investigators now believe that the crash may have been caused by an explosive device planted on the aircraft.

A spokesperson said: “While the investigation is still ongoing we cannot say categorically why the Russian jet crashed. But as more information has come to light we have become concerned that the plane may well have been brought down by an explosive device.”
