Investigation continues after man (20s) dies in Dublin hostel with man (41) arrested

A 24-year-old man was attacked at a Dublin hostel in the early hours of this morning.

Gardai have launched a murder investigation following the incident at Harrington House on the south side of the city centre, reports RTE.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested and is being questioned at a Dublin Garda station.

GardaĆ said they received a call at 4.45am about a man with a serious injury at a Harrington Street hostel.

The victim, believed to be of clondalin origin, was taken to St James’s Hospital but later died of his injuries, reports RTE.

It appears he was stabbed after an altercation with another resident.

The two lived in separate rooms and it appears that one had gone into the other man’s room where the brawl began.

The arrested person can be interrogated for 24 hours.

He was also treated and seen by a doctor.

He is believed to have been previously known to Gardai and is from West Dublin.

A forensic investigation of the site was conducted, local residents were approached and video footage was collected, reports RTE.

The State Pathologist’s Office has been notified and an autopsy will take place later today.

An incident cell has been set up and a senior investigator and family liaison officer have been appointed.

Gardai have asked to contact Kevin Street Garda Station on 01 666 9400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station, reports RTE.

While Gardai have issued an information call, they are pursuing a clear line of inquiry
