Online renewal: Department of Foreign Affairs confirms new online Passport application process will be available from Thursday




There is good news for Irish residents and passport holders as the Department of Foreign affairs have announced that current passport holders can happily renew their passports online from Thursday onwards.

The news comes as the Department unveiled the launch of the brand new Online Passport Application Service (OPAS) will section on their website.

However the Department say the new service is only for the renewal of adult applications and that those seeking a first time passport or a passport for their child will still have to use the current system.

In a brief statement the Department of Foreign Affairs said, “People can apply via the Department’s website using their PCs, tablets or mobile phones.”

“The service will be convenient, secure and it will offer faster and more predictable turnaround times.”

It is hoped the long overdue service will help cut the waiting process for passport renewals.
