Rubbish: Dublin City Council supports scrapping of new bin charge system

Dublin City Councillors backed a motion that called for the new bin charge system to be completely scrapped

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Renewal Damien English has said that the price increases on bin charges under a new scheme aimed at so-called “recycling” are not guaranteed and that the Government will take action if they deem it necessary.

However, bin charges protesters claim households will end up paying a staggering €250 more a YEAR after the new scheme is introduced.

Critics of the scheme have called for a price-freeze on current prices.

Last week, the Minister for the Environment Denis Naughten announced the new scheme, claiming that it will replace the pay-by-weight system which was shelved by the Government last year.

The new scheme is set to commence in September.
